Mohammed's role involves working to ensure deafPLUS meet and maintain high quality standards across all their national services. Prior to deafPLUS, Mohammed studied Law at university and worked across a number of charities such as Age UK and Toynbee Hall.  His experience has helped him to contribute new and innovative ideas to best meet the needs of service users at DeafPLUS

My role involves Project Managing Hackney and Tower Hamlets, Information, Advice and Advocacy Services.  As Business Development Manager I am responsible for identifying and  applying for funding for a range of projects and am Safeguarding Lead.

I manage the National Lottery funded deafPLUS Advice line and the Advisers who deliver the service to deaf people living in England and Wales. I also work in partnership with Deaf Action to support their  Adviser, who delivers the service to deaf people living in Scotland and Northern Ireland. I respond to Advice-based email enquiries from clients and collaborate to produce and update Advice content on our infoHUB, as well as managing partnerships with organisations who contribute material to the infoHUB  and refer clients to the service.

David has been a deafPLUS trustee for nearly 3 years. He recently took on the role of Acting Chair. David enjoys the governance & strategic experience of steering a medium charity, working with a committed board of 100% deaf and hard of hearing trustees. David’s background is mainly in social services management for deaf and hard of hearing people. He managed a local social services centre, set up a community interest company and worked as an independent consultant.  In the past, David has served as trustee /director of a couple of charitable boards and is also now a trustee of British Society for Mental Health and Deafness. He qualified as social worker and gained a MA degree in Public & Private Sector Management and is fluent in BSL, English and ASL.

Alan has strong governance and financial experience gained over 40 years on charity boards (including Chair of deafPLUS), with current membership in the fields of Deaf and disability rights, education and policing. 
A very committed member of the Deaf and disabled community – born profoundly Deaf and a culturally Deaf BSL user – Alan is an advocate for improving access and a firm believer in the social model of disability and cultural model of Deafness.
Alan combines his skills in languages, communication and translation with his lifelong passion for arts, in his roles as BSL Tour Guide for prominent London art galleries and museums and as a BSL Teacher, Assessor and Verifier. 

Geraldine has known DeafPLUS when it used to be the Breakthrough Trust back in the 1970s when it was based at Greenwich. She did some voluntary work helping with the mail outs.  Geraldine joined the current DeafPLUS Board of Trustee in March 2021 – after retiring from working at DeafPLUS Whitechapel Office for 5 years (2014-2019) in various roles including Project Manager.  Her work background includes working as a CEO and Senior Manager for Deaf & Disabled People's organisations and Social Services plus Strategic Development Officer for Inclusion London.  She joined the board because she wanted to work with Deaf and deafened people to access the support and services they need.

Aiysha is Deaf, BSL user and a qualified Advocate and Advice Worker, with 10 years of experience in all aspects of Social Welfare Advice.  She oversees Information, Advice and Advocacy within Hackney and Tower Hamlets’ services as well as managing Health and Wellbeing team.  Aiysha has a proven track record in many successful casework outcomes for our clients including representation at tribunals and the courts.
